Mornin'. I slept in a bit this morning and got up at 6:30 instead of 5, but I still had enough time to do my yoga, have a bowl of cereal, and my coffee is starting to kick in.
I took my measurements last night; No, I'm not posting them here. The good news, there's been no real change from when I took my measurements around the same time last year. The bad news, there's been no real change from when I took my measurements around the same time last year. *sigh*
According to this piece in the New York Times, that extra hour and a half of sleep will make me more creative and give me an edge. It would be nice if I didn't spend that extra time dreaming of editing and coding text at work.
So I'm debating whether I should try to catch the VP debate tonight or pick it up online later. My mind is already made up. It's been made up since February. I'll be voting Obama/Biden. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the Sept. 26th Obama/McCain debate last week, and I learned a few things. You see, I used to really like McCain, back when he was something of a free-thinking Republican. Back when he could credibly be called a maverick.
So I feel partially compelled to watch the VP debate, even though I'm nearly certain it'll be a train wreck. If nothing else, Tina Fey will have fodder for this week's SNL.
I picked up this story of four students at an Oregon Christian university hanging an image of Obama from a tree on campus. Now, I'm from Oregon and I'm beyond disappointed. I'm disgusted and angry and not because it was an image of Obama, but because you don't do that. You just don't do that. There is no possible justification.
I've wandered over to the Art of Manliness site a couple of times now and even though I'm not a man and a don't have a pair (at least not a pair of those) I find it entertaining. Don't think manly-man, think gentlemanly-man and you'll have a better sense of what you'll find there. Here's a link to their Best of September round up. Somehow, I don't think an Art of Womanliness site would go over as well.
And Bush is out to change history... again.
I have all the necessary tools for making coffee at my house now!! I am seriously stoked that I can get up and drink coffee right away if I want.

WOOT. I was confused before when you said you had no coffee. But now I get it, moving + no kitchen = no coffee.

2 – 3 sentences, it's hard to communicate comprehensive thoughts in sound bites (one of the problems with campaign coverage, if you ask me). I’ll start by saying, I'm a registered Republican.
What I like about Obama is that he acknowledges the fact that there are no "magic bullet" one-size-fits-all solutions to our biggest problems. The whole either-or, my way or the highway approach from both sides of the aisle has been one of my biggest frustrations with politics. Obama gets that and can articulate it, whether it's his position on immigration or our current involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And I think he's got the best chance at actually accomplishing bipartisan goals. At the moment, McCain can't even reach an agreement with key Republicans in Congress. I actually worry that McCain would enter the Oval Office as a “lame duck” president because he seems to be having trouble just unifying a majority within his own party.
Beyond that, I'm more confident that any appointment Obama may be called upon to make to the Supreme Court will more closely reflect a moderate political ideology than one McCain may need to make.
And Palin, don't even get me started. I saw it coming in June or July and thought she’d be a good strategic choice for running mate—on paper. After I began looking at her in July, I didn’t really believe McCain would actually choose her. (Again, I used to really like the guy. If he'd been running eight years ago he probably would have had my vote. He’s just changed so much in the last 4 – 5 years.)
I only caught the last 10 minutes or so of the VP debate when I got home and I must say I’m quite please at how they both did. I didn’t want a train wreck, and it doesn’t seem like one happened. I need to find the video and watch the whole thing. Palin is actually quite deft at debating. She’s good at side stepping, or redirecting a question she doesn’t want to answer.
Back in January, I was undecided between Obama and Clinton, right up until Clinton broke her promise not to campaign in Michigan and Florida during the primaries. (She attended a “fundraiser” in FL during their primary vote, and did not remove her name from the Michigan ballot after all the Dem candidates agreed to.)
Here in the Bay Area I'm probably considered a conservative. Throw me in a red-state voter pool and I'd probably be a bleeding-heart liberal. Me, I think I’m pretty level-headed middle of the road.
Pondering your answer. I am just so frustrated with both candidates right now because they both lie and/or distort the truth.
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point about sound bites causing all kinds of problems in elections. Kyle's schooling is teaching me is that requiring someone to condense all they know/learn into a summary is a very effective tool.
